Arlen Freund, 89, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather died Friday, January 10, 2025 in Wichita, Ks.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann (Martin) of 62 years and his six children: Michelle (Eric) Nichols, Martin (Pauline), Denise (Kevin) Thimmesch, Karl (Sherri), Mary Jeanette (Eric) Lindebak, and Kim (Doug ) Kempkes, 19 grandchildren: Eric, Rachel, Rebekah, Nicholas, Michael, Alex, Jessica, Abby, Courtney, Tyson, Lauren, Neil, Susanna, Madison, Dylan, Michael, Mark, Veronica, Lance and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Lois (Bill) Poole, Sr. Stella Maris, Laverne (Chuck) Dawson, Sr. Mary Joseph, Frances Freund, Carol (Herb) Page, Margie (Tom) Shay.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Susan (Smarsh), his sister Norma Jean, brother Leon, and daughter-in-law Sharon.
He lived a life of service to God, his family, his parish, his country and his community. He was an avid carpenter making many items for St. Mark’s Church, his grandchildren and other children. He also loved antique tractors, horses, and all things farm- related. He was born in Andale, but raised in the Flint Hills near Burns, Kansas which he dearly loved. He never knew a stranger and was always looking to help anyone in need.
Recitation of the rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2025 and the Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025 both at St. Mark Catholic Church (19230 West 29th St N, Colwich, KS 67030).
