Barbara "Bobbie" Jencks Obituary

Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Jencks, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, in Newton, Kansas, with her two daughters by her side.

Born July 13, 1937, in Los Angeles, California, Barbara was the daughter of Clint and Iona Allison. Her family had originally moved west from Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl era, later returning to settle near Hammon in Western Oklahoma, where Barbara spent much of her life.

After high school, Barbara pursued nursing and worked at a hospital in Elk City, Oklahoma. It was during this time that she reconnected with Evert Jencks, the brother of a close friend, who had recently returned from serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Their bond grew, and they were married on August 4, 1967.

Barbara and Evert built a life together on their farm near Hammon, where they raised their two daughters, Bonnie and Fawn. Barbara left nursing to dedicate herself fully to her family and the farm. A lover of animals, she welcomed every stray that wandered onto the property and treated the family’s livestock like beloved pets.

She especially cherished accompanying Evert on his diesel mechanic service calls—her favorite trips being those to Foss Lake, even though she couldn’t swim and had a healthy fear of water. That never stopped her from joining in the fun, though—she once wore two life jackets on a windy lake day, just to be safe.  Following Evert’s passing in 2008 after a battle with cancer, Barbara relocated to Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Kansas, where she lived for the remainder of her life.

Though named Barbara, she became lovingly known as "Bobbie" after her first grandchild had trouble pronouncing her name. That nickname evolved into "GMA Bobbie," a title that perfectly captured her vibrant spirit. She was known for her sass, her adventurous heart, her fierce resilience, and a playful streak of mischief. No one could tell a story quite like her, and no outfit was complete without her signature lipstick.

Barbara's greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, strength, and unforgettable memories. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Evert; her parents, Clint and Iona; and her niece, Jan.

She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Allen (Randy) of Little City, OK, and Fawn Rae of Port Aransas, TX; her brother, Clint Allison (Phyllis) of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Clint (Ashley) of Omaha, NE; Michael of Wichita, KS; Brandi (Jeremy) of Bellevue, NE; and Adam of Port Aransas, TX; and great-grandchildren Kaydence, Jayley, and Myles. She will also be deeply missed by her nieces and extended family.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
