Clara was born to William & Dena Sheffield in Plankinton, South Dakota on February 8, 1934. She passed, August 27, 2025 at the Cheney Golden Age Home, with her family by her side.
She graduated from high school in Mount Vernon, SD and went on to business college in Rapid City, SD.
Clara felt the urge to move to San Jose, CA and convinced her roommates to join her. After arriving, she got a job as a bank teller. She gave birth to Laurel in California.
While there, she met Walter "Pete" McIver. They moved to his hometown, Satanta, KS where they were married September 30, 1960. Born to this marriage were daughters, Dana, Jana, Kim & Darcy.
She worked in the local grocery store and then as postal clerk. She later paved the way for equality and became a Post Master.
She was also involved in her community through the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, as well as a member in the Order of the Eastern Star.
Clara is survived by: her children, Laurel Rackley, Dana (Dan) Eye, Jana McIver, Kim (Wayne) Angleton and Darcy (Craig) Harkcom; her grandchildren, Joshua Roderick, Matthew Roderick, Nicholas Roderick, Sali (Chad) Trusty, Kin Gilfillan, KaLeena Martinez and Darian (Brandon) Miller; her nine great-grandchildren, Caden Acosta, Jaci Mattison, Calvin Mattison, Joey Roderick, Wesley Roderick, Aaron Roderick, Liam Vesely, Kieran Vesely and Harper Miller; her sisters-in-law, Laurie Sheffield, Wanda Sheffield and Marliss Sheffield; her brothers-in-law, Corky McIver and David Parton; and her several nieces and nephews.
Clara was preceded in death by: her husband, “Pete”; brothers, John, Bob, Bill, Don, Ed, Bob, Fred, Chuck Sheffield and sister Bonnie Sheffield.
She will forever be loved and remembered as an amazing mother & grandmother.
Services will be at Wulf Ast Mortuary (911 Biermann Garden Plain, Kansas 67050) Wednesday September 3, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation with family present at 10:00. Clara will lie in state at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 2, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to: Cheney Golden Age Home (724 N Main, Cheney, Ks 67025) and Interim Hospice (525 N Main St. Hutchinson, 67501).
