Donald "Dave" Wilson passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, after an extended illness. Born on December 23, 1948, in Kansas City, KS, Dave's life was characterized by service and dedication to his family and community.
He was the son of Donald E. Wilson and Charlotte Ruth (Clark) Wilson and was lovingly raised by his stepfather, Joe Davis, and stepmother, BJ Wilson. Despite the loss of several family members, including his wife BJ, parents, step-parents, brothers Dennis and Dan, and niece Laura, Dave remained a pillar of strength for his family.
He is survived by his children, Shawna Wilson and Donald David Wilson Jr., and his stepson, Robert Stankey Jr., his six grandchildren—Amberlyn, Charles, Jessica, Triston, Emily, and Luke—and his four great-grandchildren, Elijah, Elliot, Emmalynn, and Amora. His brother Mike, sister Susan, and sisters-in-law Sandra and Linda. His memory will continue to inspire them all.
After graduating from West High School in 1966, Dave served honorably in the US Navy Seabees from 1968 to 1974, earning the distinction of a Vietnam Veteran. He later honed his carpentry skills at Wichita State University and spent over 30 years in the construction industry, where he became a respected Superintendent.
An avid hunter, fisherman, and car enthusiast, Dave also enjoyed bowling and creating furniture. Known for his quick wit and directness, he was always ready to help others, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. Dave's laughter, love, and wisdom will be cherished by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dave's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his belief in helping others and making the world a better place. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the memories of Dave's laughter, love, and wisdom, forever grateful for the time we shared with him.
As we gather to honor Dave's memory, we remember a man who lived fully and loved fiercely, whose spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
A service to celebrate Dave's life will be held on June 8, 2026, at noon at White Chapel Cemetery, located at 1806 N. Oliver St., Wichita, KS.
