Elizabeth Mary Louise Lies / Betty Lies Lovett

Lovett, Betty Louise Lies of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at the age of 95.

Betty Lou Lies was born in Andale, Kansas on August 12, 1929, the thirteenth child of Matthias & Margaret (Betzen) Lies.  Betty and her younger twin sister, Margaret, were baptized on August 13, 1929 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Andale.

Betty attended Andale Elementary School and graduated from Andale High School in 1947. following graduation, Betty spent a number of years practicing social work.  She saw the good in everyone and wished to make the world a better place.  Subsequently, she decided to pursue nursing school and earned her RN degree in New York.

On March 6, 1970, Betty married her soulmate, Vince Lovett.  they lived in Washington, D.C.  where Vince had a government position and betty practiced nursing.  They shared a love of art, music, and travel. they enjoyed a busy social life.   In 1986, the two retired from their big city jobs and moved back to the ‘home place’ in Andale.  They quickly adjusted and frequently opened their home to family and friends.

 Betty will be fondly remembered for her sweet soft-spoken demeanor as well as her compassion & kindness toward all people.   Betty cherished her catholic faith and lived it by example each day.  She especially loved her large extended family – young and old!  Each 4th of July, she hosted a family gathering at the ‘home place’!  The occasion will be remembered by generations of Lies family members as the highlight of many a summer. 

Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Vince; her dearest twin sister, Margaret; siblings, Elizabeth (Aloys Martin), Sr. Helena, Bernard (Ida Sylvana Grassl), Dr. Bartholomew (Zita Reichenberger), Josephine (Dr. Francis Hagan), Nicholas Lies (Emma Hilger), Caroline (Gregory Blick), Fr. Michael; Marie, Susanna, Kathryn (Clem Suellentrop), Rose Ann (Julius Stroemel); and brothers-in-law, James Lovett and William Lovett.

Betty is survived by dozens of nieces & nephews and their families.

The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025 and mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2025 both at St. Joseph Catholic Church (318 Rush Ave. Andale, KS 67001). In lieu of flowers please send memorials to St. Joseph Altar Society (318 Rush Ave. Andale, KS 67001).
