Ernie A. Spriggs

Ernie A. Spriggs, 89, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas. He was an avid pilot, in fact, he obtained his pilot license before getting a driver’s license, and was proud to have received the FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot award for 50 years of safe flying in 2017. Ernie was an aviation engineer and worked for three Wichita aircraft manufacturers, Cessna, Boeing, and Learjet, as well as Lockheed Martin. During his “retirement”, he started his own DER consulting company, working to make certification findings on behalf of the FAA. Ernie was a member of the Rolling Hills Country Club for 20 years where he loved to play golf, and he was a member of the Quiet Birdmen. He loved to travel and will be remembered as a funny guy, with one of his favorite saying’s being, “If I’d known I was going to live this long, I’d have taken better care of myself!”. He was a fan of old Westerns and war movies, was Twee’s official cooking & baking “taster”, was an avid reader about the Civil War and WWII and was a great Mexican Dominoes player…tap tap tap Ernie! He always entertained with his countless stories of his dream house that be built on Orcas Island, WA., and of the best bays for oysters in Washington, the best salmon fishing, and of his fishing trips to Scum Lake in British Columbia Canada. He and family were regulars at Scotch & Sirloin for Oysters and his favorite filet mignon…and a good Scotch!

Ernie is preceded in death by parents, Carl and Madeline (Sproat) Spriggs; son, Wayne Spriggs; and sister, Nancy Hicks.

He is survived by wife, Twee Spriggs; daughter, Cindy (Frank) Artiles; stepdaughter, Aphrodite (Kevin) Campbell; stepson Robbie Davis; grandchildren, Shenna Coates, Andrea Smith, Ashley Thompson, Lindsey Walker, Scott Spriggs; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 11:00 am in Highland Cemetery 803 North Iliff Street Medicine Lodge, Kansas, 67104.
