Gilbert "Gib" Bergkamp, Sr.

Gilbert “Gib” Bergkamp, Sr., 87, retired farmer and dairyman, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2024.  Gib was born January 29, 1937, in Pretty Prairie, to Joseph and Nora (Gerber) Bergkamp. Gib married Carolyn (Hein) on October 3, 1959.  They were both devoted to St. Theresa The Little Flower for many years. Carolyn feels very strongly that St. Theresa was present at his passing and accompanied him up to heaven.

Gib is preceded in death by: his parents; his son, Dan; and his siblings, Wilford, Norbert, Harold, Gerald, Joe, Don and William.  He is survived by: his loving wife, Carolyn, of 64 years; his children, Gil Bergkamp, Gerard (Cindy) Bergkamp, Gwen (Bryan) Lagaly, Gina Mason and Garret (Lisa) Bergkamp; his daughter-in-law, Julie Bergkamp; his 29 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Recitation of the rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 2, 2024 with funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 both at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church Building Fund (4813 NE 150th Ave. Cheney, KS 67025).
