Goldeen Rose Claypool, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, in Cheney, Kansas, at the age of 93.
Born on September 3, 1931, in Syracuse Kansas, Goldeen was the daughter of Glen "Bill" and Byrdine Hartshorn.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her brothers, Lloyd and Warren Hartshorn; her daughter, Micki Sue Rogers; and her son, Kevin Claypool. She is survived by: her daughters, Toni (Patrick) Thompson of Encinitas, California and Tammy (Tracy) Black of Cheney, Kansas. She leaves her cherished grandchildren, Julie (Mark) Stade, Amy (Ryan) Tennant Radden, Radha (John) Thompson Michels, James (Lisa Marie) Thompson, Brandi (Lucas) Schroeder and Morgan (Jason) Nistas. Goldeen lived life with energy, creativity and love. She was always crafting -- sewing, crocheting or woodworking -- and her flowers beds were a source of both beauty and joy. She loved creating floral arrangements and sharing them with friends and neighbors. An avid fisher, Goldeen could often be found at Cheney Lake or Lake Texoma, sometimes even entering tournaments. She was also her grandkids' and great-grandkids' biggest fan, attending countless sporting events. Her knowledge of sports was remarkable--she could tell you where the pros went to high school and college, name their coaches, and recite their stats. March Madness was a favorite time of year, and more often than not, Goldeen won the family bracket contest.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at the Fairview Cemetery in Cheney, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Goldeen's honor to the Cheney Community Foundation (P.O. Box I, Cheney, Kansas 67025).
