Homer Dale Compton, was born December 21, 1928 on a farm near Anness, Kansas, the son of Alson Streeter Compton and Zama Zoe Schammehorn Compton. He departed this life July 29, 2025 at the age of 96 years and 7 months. Homer grew up in the Milton community where he attended Milton schools. He graduated from Milton High School with the class 1948, where he was the sole surviving member.
Homer was united in marriage to Helen Pat Vosburgh on July 30, 1950 in Wichita, Kansas. They moved to Cheney in 1952, where they made their home and raised their family of five children. Homer began working at Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas, in September of 1950. He later worked at Cessna Aircraft but returned to Boeing in 1972 as a modification mechanic until retiring in 1991. Homer was a member of the Cheney Methodist Church, where he was active in the Methodist Mens group and a former member of the Lion's International.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Six brothers; Robert, Harold, Roy, Glenn, Earl and Lawrence "Pete" Compton. Sisters; Mary Jane Alloway and Esther Fornshell. Son; Darin Compton and one son-in-law; Stan Dixon. Homer is survived by his four daughters; Vicki Turner and husband; Stacy of Wichita, KS, Kim Uppendahl and husband; Bruce, Jana Howell and husband; Steve, all of Cheney, KS and Saudi Dixon of Santo, TX. 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services to be held at Cheney Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, August 11, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cheney Methodist Church 406 W. 3rd Street Cheney, Kansas 67025 or to the Cheney Golden Age Home 724 N. Main Cheney, Kansas 67025
