Jackie Ray Scroggins

Jackie Ray Scroggins, 75, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on May 11, 1948, to Raymond and Fern Scroggins in Harrison, Arkansas. Jackie was the kind of man every woman wants to marry, and on February 13, 1966, Valarie says she was the lucky one as they entered what would be 58 years of a wonderful marriage. Jackie and Valarie had two children, Bobby, and Chris. Jackie was the pillar of the family; he was a good dad. His boys say that he tolerated a lot of crap from them, but he eventually got them straightened out. Jackie enjoyed camping, fishing, bird hunting and racing. Bobby got the fishing gene and Chris got the racing gene. Jackie learned how to do the two-step and waltz from Valarie and the two went on to enjoy nights out dancing at Sam’s Club in Wichita. Jackie never met a stranger, everyone who met him loved him. He could often be found sitting on his front porch swing in the evenings visiting with neighbors. He was friendly, outgoing, caring and kind. Jackie was described as a strong and silent type who was also a hard worker, and right there if someone needed something.  He retired from Eby Construction in 2010 after 44 years but kept in touch with his friends and coworkers who had also retired. Jackie was humorous, and always full of life, laughter, and good stories. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Jackie is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Scroggins, and Anna “Fern” (Wishon) Scroggins.

He is survived by wife, Valarie Scroggins; sons, Bobby (Sharon) Scroggins, Chris (Jill Young) Scroggins; sister, Pattie (Charles) Merrill; brother, Joe (Lynn) Scroggins, Duel Scroggins; grandchildren, Dallas Scroggins, Rochelle (Gabe) Palmer, Corey (Kelly) Ryan, Ryan Scroggins, Katelyn Scroggins, Erin Young, Katie Young; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Lily and River.

Viewing and visitation will be held at Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Colwich, Kansas, on Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:30 am followed by a graveside service at 12:00 pm in Resthaven Cemetery, Wichita, Kansas.
