James "Jim" Lyons Obituary

James “Jim” Lewis Lyons, 70, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on December 1, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on September 19, 1954 in Great Lakes, Illinois to Willie Lyons and Lois Holt.

Jim had an exuberant personality and a fun way of living that left a mark on everyone who knew him.

From his early years in Illinois to his adulthood in Kansas, he cultivated friendships, touched countless lives, and leaves a legacy of love and unwavering support for his people.

Jim was a man full of personality, ornery in the best way, with a fun-loving spirit that was impossible to ignore. Whether it was his playful teasing or his jokes and pranks, he could always lighten the mood.

But what truly defined him was his deep sense of generosity and his readiness to lend a hand to anyone in need.

His love of sports shined through in every area of his life. He was an avid fan of the Wichita State Shockers, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the KU Jayhawks.

For 10 years, Jim was a pitcher for the Wichita-based Beep Baseball team, playing with talent, passion, and dedication. He poured his heart into the game, and in doing so, he became a beloved member of the beep baseball community.

His family was his greatest pride. As a father he was endlessly proud of his kids and supportive of their every endeavor. And his love and pride for every grandchild, and great-grandchild was evident to everyone who knew him.

A cherished brother and a favorite uncle, Jim was someone who made family gatherings fun.

Jim talked to everyone he met, never forgot a face, and once he made a friend, they were a friend for life. He had a way of making people feel accepted, no matter their story.

His legacy will live on in the lives of all who were fortunate to know him and whose lives were made brighter by his presence.

He is preceded in death by his mom, Lois Holt; his dad, Willie Lyons; and his stepmom, Donna Lyons; his brothers John Lyons and Marvin Long; granddaughters Patience Lotts and Morgan Bick; and great-granddaughter, Emery Lyons.

Jim is survived by his loving girlfriend, Ann Becker; his sisters Sharon Lyons, and Becky (Greg) Douglas; his forever friend and former wife, Laurie (Josh) Reed; his children Jimmy (Amy) Lyons, Chris Lyons, Christy (Jen) Bohrer, and Randy (Courtney) Lyons; his grandchildren Chelsie, Cody, Raegan, Deacon, Alex (Matt), Emily (Trenton), Hannah (Andrew), Hayden, Bryson, Kooper, Kyra, Kyson, Jackson, and Takoda; great-grandchildren, Leighton, Peyton, Emilia, Harmony, Melody, Junior, and Andrew; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of his life will be held at New Hope Christian Church at 1400 George Washington Boulevard in Wichita, Kansas, at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
