Jean E. Zimmerman went to be with her heavenly Father on May 12, 2025, with her husband Larry Zimmerman by her side.
Jean was born February 13, 1952, along with her twin sister Jo Ann, to H.W. and Velma (Hinkle) Matthews. Jean grew up living at 300 N. Main St. in Goddard. She and her sisters, Jo Ann and June spent numerous Sundays singing as a trio in their local Baptist Church. She graduated from Goddard High School in 1970 and then attended Business College. Jean met her husband to be in 1975 and they were married in 1977. After living outside of Goddard for 10 years, they bought a house at 6 S. Main St. in Goddard, and lived there until her death.
Jean had different jobs during her life such as working as a secretary for Jack Brown & Associates in Wichita, Kansas. She also worked at the school cafeteria, a doctor’s office and loved working for Intrust Bank. She enjoyed planning and decorating for weddings. Jean was a longtime member of the TOPS CLUB ORG. where she held many different offices and helped to start the Goddard Club. Jean was also the first woman member of the Goddard Lions Club and served as secretary of the Maize Lions Club, where she and Larry served for a number of years. Jean always took time to spend time with, and spoil, her two grandchildren.
She is survived by: her husband of 48 years, Larry Zimmerman; her sons, Luke Zimmerman and Kurt (Christy) Zimmerman; her sisters, June Busby and Jo (Paul) Moffett; her grandson, Christian Zimmerman; and her granddaughter, Madilyn Zimmerman.
Jean is preceded in death by: her father and mother, H.W. and Velma Matthews; her sister, Jerry Natale; and her brothers, Don Garr, Larry Matthews and Kenny Matthews. She will be dearly missed by not only her family, but all those who took the time to get to know her.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2025 at The Goddard Church (300 N. Cedar, Goddard, Kansas) with a reception and lunch at the church following the service. At 2:00 p.m. there will be a short graveside service at White Chapel Cemetery (1806 N. Oliver, Wichita, Kansas).
