Jeanette P. Walker, 94, passed away on Monday, October 23rd, 2023. She was born on October 3rd, 1929, to Martin and Susanne Libel in Mt. Hope, Kansas. She attended Sacred Heart College where she earned an associate degree. A Catholic Catechism teacher for 25 years, she was very active in the St. Mark’s parish. Jeanette married James Walker on August 25th, 1956, and together they had nine children; Ted, Linda, Carol, Greg, Annette, Tim, Mary, Cindy and Stephen.
Jeanette was a true homemaker who enjoyed raising her children and caring for her family. She was a foodie who loved to cook, bake and preserve her garden produce through canning. Jeanette’s children and other neighborhood kids enjoyed all sorts of homemade after school treats and ate thousands of pancakes. She was a seamstress, making many of her children’s clothes throughout the years. Jeanette enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, especially during their long summer breaks. She enjoyed crafting, quilting and playing bingo. Jeanette was also a world traveler having visited South Korea, Ireland, Mexico, and Hawaii.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Susanne Libel; husband, James Walker; son, Greg Walker; grandson, Ryan Walker; great-grandson, Elijah Joy; daughter-in-law, Susie Walker; brothers, Oscar Libel and Leonard Libel; sisters, Almeda Baalman, Lucille Gray, and Olivia Libel.
She is survived by children, Ted (Colleen) Walker, Linda (Jim) Fitzgerald, Carol (Denny) Lawlor, Annette (Mark) Joy, Tim (Sue) Walker, Mary (Chip) Martin, Cindy (Dan) Rich, Stephen (Hyeonjeong) Walker, and daughter-in-law, Judy Walker; grandchildren, Sarah, T.J., Patrick, Margaret, Kelly, Tyler, Travis, Jordan, Rachel, Lauren, Landon, Megan, Grace, Leah, Luke, Kathryn, and Meghan; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Brogan, James, Eden, Nora, Alister, Autumn, Noah, Layla, Chloe, Ryatt, Zealand and Capri; and sister, Mary Lou Hageman.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Colwich, Kansas at 9:30 AM on Friday, October 27, 2023 followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place following the Funeral Mass at St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetery in Colwich, Kansas.
