Joel Dean Rein, 71, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away on November 30, 2024, in Hutchinson. He was born on September 19, 1953, to Cletus and Jo Ann Rein in Great Bend, Kansas, and spent his childhood in Bazine, Kansas. Joel graduated from Bazine High School in 1971.
After graduation, Joel moved to Dodge City to work as a welder for W&W before returning to Ness City, where he married his high school sweetheart, Pamela Munsch, in 1972. Together, Joel and Pamela were blessed with three children: Brandy, Robyn, and Jared. They lovingly raised their children until Pamela's untimely passing in 1983.
In 1980, Joel began a long career with Texaco, hauling crude oil for 23 years. His work took him to El Dorado and later Lyons, Kansas. In 2001, Joel married Deneise in Lyons and launched his own trucking business, J&D Trucking, leasing two trucks from Texaco. He worked alongside his brother Alan until he eventually sold the company.
Joel later moved to Hutchinson, working for NCRA in Coffeyville and finishing his career with EKC in Pratt, retiring in 2021.
Joel loved the outdoors and cherished time spent hunting, fishing, gardening, and canning. He also enjoyed relaxing with friends over a cold beer and formed lifelong bonds with friends Lanny Unruh, Dave Burrell, Mike Zimmerman, and Doug Moore, as well as many others along the way. Above all, Joel treasured his family.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Pamela (Munsch) Rein; his parents; his brothers Myron, Daryl, and Brad Rein; his sister Paula Rein; and his son, Jared Rein.
Joel is survived by his children, Brandy Rein (Adonis, Evan, and Eryn) of Wichita, KS, and Rob Rein (Jessica, Jenna, Avre, and Brekin) of Wichita, KS; his wife, Deneise Rein; and his stepchildren, Jamie Bernhardt (Sabrina, Breanna, Deanna, Brian, and Ryan) of Lyons, KS, Lisa Henry (Robert and Ella) of Wichita, KS, and Chad Lang (Jennifer and Jaden) of Manhattan, KS. He also leaves behind his siblings, Dale Rein, Alan Rein, Julie Roane, Cynthia Rein, and Patty Legleiter (Neil).
A graveside service will be held at Bazine Cemetery in Bazine, Kansas, at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 6, 2024, followed by a lunch reception at the American Legion in Bazine.
Joel will be remembered for his hard work, love of nature, quick wit, and sense of humor, as well as the countless lives he touched throughout his journey.
