Katherine Lou Morgan

Katherine Lou Morgan, 70, passed away on April 29th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on August 3, 1953, to Jerry and Joan Cheney in Wichita, Kansas.

Katherine was a dog lover; she had a Chihuahua named “Cuddles” that gave her love interest a run for his money! Eventually Russell and “Cuddles” warmed up to one another when they both realized that the other was there to stay. Katherine married Russell Morgan on July 19, 1980. The family remembers Katherine as an excellent mom who loved to cook, couldn’t pass up a good garage sale, and had this biggest heart. She worked in the kitchen at USD 266 in Maize from 1993 -2016 when her declining health forced her to retire. She loved working at the school, she was able to follow her son from elementary school to middle school and finally high school, and she had the summers off with him. She was known as the cookie lady by Brandon’s friends in high school. She loved Elvis and oldies and won several contests over the radio for quickly identifying a song from just a second-long snippet. Katherine had a 1973 Mustang that Tabatha loved to ride in, of course while they were out hitting garage sales. Katherine enjoyed taking aquacize classes a few times a week as she was fighting to maintain her health. She never quit working toward getting better, she was a very strong person. 

Katherine is preceded in death by her father, Jerry Cheney.

She is survived by mother, Joan Cheney; husband, Russell Morgan; son, Brandon Morgan and partner Bridget Kildare; daughter, Tabatha Morgan and fiancé Darren Mohling; sister, Debra Kuneman and husband David; grandchildren, Kendra Elbert and husband Brad, Madison Morgan, and Tyson Crisp; great grandchildren, Emma and Tobias.

A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Wulf-Ast Mortuary 213 W. Wichita, Colwich, Kansas 67030. The funeral will start at 10:30 am on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, also at Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Colwich. Immediately following the funeral, burial will take place in Maize Park Cemetery, Maize, Kansas.

Memorial Contributions may be given to Kansas Humane Society.  

Flowers may be delivered to Wulf-Ast Mortuary 213 W. Wichita, Colwich, Kansas 67030 on Thursday between 2:00 - 7:00 pm.
