Lynn Ann Woods, 82, (a mostly) life-long Sedgwick County resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2026 with her sisters Mary and Sharon at her side.
Born on April 8, 1944 to Clyde and Thelma Strong, she was one of six children, and the middle daughter. Lynn was a beloved Sister, and would do anything for either of her two sisters.
She was very athletic, golfed, and was in a bowling league with fellow Wichita City Bus drivers in the 1980’s. She was the first female to ever letter in track at Wichita West High School in the 1960’s. She also enjoyed volleyball and had a chance to try out for the US Olympic team also in the 1960’s.
She was very handy as well, able to build just about anything and often did the oil changes for family members’ cars.
She was also very good with money and would help family members and friends when they needed it.
She loved Scottish Terriers, and it was the only type of dog she ever had throughout her adult life.
She had several careers throughout her life. Some of her notable positions included being a checker for Safeway during a small period of her life when she lived in the Seattle/Tacoma area in the late 1960’s. She was a school bus driver in the early 1970s for Derby, KS USD 260. She then went on to be a City of Wichita bus driver for many years before becoming a bus mechanics assistant. She then became a Custodian at Swaney Elementary in Derby, KS. After many years at Swaney, her final job was a long-distance box truck Driver for Fed Ex, going daily from the Wichita Mid-Continent Airport ramp to Garden City and Dodge City. She was the first employee to ever retire from the ramp at FedEx at the Wichita airport.
Lynn was a beloved Aunt, who was called “Auntie Lynn” by her 3 Nephews and Niece. She always gave some of the best presents throughout the years, including bicycles, trains and Cabbage Patch Dolls and the nicest, most stylish clothes. She would take them on trips (often to ride roller coasters!) and was always happy to spend time with them.
Lynn is survived by sisters, Sharon (Than) Pham , Mary Dominick, and Sister-in-Law Tammie (Anita) Hutchinson, and brother Howard “Mark” Strong, Nephews Randal (Scott) Strong-Wallace, Chad Weisshaar, Eric Weisshaar, Niece, Jennifer (Jason) Dominick-Levy, Grand Nieces Ryesen, and Hadley, as well as her dear close friends Marilyn Leiszler and Mary Derstein.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Thelma Strong, brothers John Strong and Barry Strong and her dear friend Mary Marrow.
