Martha Kerschen Obituary

Martha A. Kerschen, 90, passed away on September 21, 2023. Martha was born on September 26, 1932 to Fred and Helen Hampel in Waterloo, Kansas. She married Melvin Kerschen in 1953, and together they had six children, Patrick, Martin, Karen, Larry, Connie, Roger. Martha was a homemaker, and also worked as a paraprofessional for USD 618 for 10 years and a bus driver for USD267 for 27 years. She also served in the St. Elizabeth Altar Society. Martha enjoyed many wheat harvests with her family, quilting, and reading. She was also a sports fanatic, in particular she was a Denver Broncos and Wichita State Shockers fan. Martha was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed. 

She is preceded in death by husband, Melvin Kerschen; son, Larry Kerschen; daughter, Karen Seiler; brothers, Alfred Hampel, Paul Hampel, John Hampel, Norbert Hampel and Martin Hampel; sisters, Berniece Bergkamp, Ruth Heithaus, Ernestine Hon and Florence Kelsey.

Martha is survived by sons, Patrick (Loretta) Kerschen, Martin (Lila) Kerschen and Roger (Jill) Kerschen; daughter, Connie (Steve) Inslee; grandchildren, Kimberly Mangile, Kyle (Sarah) Kerschen, Kassi (Michael) Pichler, Justin (Amy) Kerschen, Fr. Michael Kerschen, Eric Kerschen, Megan (Brock) Kampling, Chad (Maggie) Seiler, Ashley (Ryan) Mertz, Sara (Jeff) McCroskey, Jerrod (Erica) Inslee, Rachel (Jacob) Leland, Matthew Kerschen, Kayla Kerschen, Alan Kerschen; 28 great-grandchildren; and sister, Geraldine Ziegler.

A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Garden Plain on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Garden Plain, followed by burial in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery of Garden Plain.
