Norma Jean Compton

Norma Jean Compton, 91, passed away on May 18, 2024, in Cheney, Kansas. She was born to Sam and Gertrude Davis in Danville, Kansas on May 25, 1932. Norma married Earl Compton in November of 1952 and enjoyed 70 years of marriage until Earl passed away in 2023. Norma and Earl had three daughters, Brenda, Stacy, and Lou Ann.

Norma will be remembered by her friends and family in a magnitude of ways. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and gigi. But best known for her fiery personality and not afraid to tell it like it is mindset. She was also a great cook, Sunday lunches with her famous fried chicken, homemade chicken and noodles, pies and skillet hamburgers.

Norma wasn’t one to carry on long telephone conversations, most will remember if you had the opportunity to speak with her on the phone, there wasn't much visiting, it was short, sweet and to the point and never ended in a good bye on her part…. Just a click as you were still in mid sentence…

Norma had a love for sports, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, Wichita State Shockers, spending time at the family lake house, but most of all her time spent with Earl. We cherish the legacy you created and your memory will be carried on in our hearts forever. 

Norma is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Compton, son-in-law, Ed Becker; parents, Sam and Gertrude Davis; sisters, Joyce Matson, Phyllis Finney, Claudine Madison, and Roberta Frye.

She is survived by daughters, Brenda Becker, Stacy (Todd) Rosenhagen, and Lou Ann (Mark) Henry; grandchildren, Jeanna (Dilshan) Ratnayake, Janelle Becker, Heath (Markie) Rosenhagen, Riley (Kirsten) Rosenhagen, Bryce Henry, and Chelsea (Jay) Malandrucco; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Davis.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Garden Plain (911 Biermann, Garden Plain, Kansas 67050). The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church (615 N. Main St. Garden Plain, Kansas 67050 on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Pioneer Cemetery (38800 W. 23rd St. S  Cheney, Kansas 67025). Memorials are suggested to Country Care Hospice and may be sent to: 104 N. Steen St. Mt. Hope, Kansas 67108.
