“Pastor Greg, Brother O” as he was affectionately referred to by many passed away on Tuesday April 8th, 2025, at his home in Bel Aire, Ks. Born in Hutchinson, Ks to Arnold “Arnie” Oldenettel and Letha Oldenettel (McLaughlin) he spent much of his life in or around the Wichita area. He served his Savior in many churches throughout his five decades of ministry. He met his wife Gwen (Foster) at Baptist Bible College of Springfield, Mo. They were married over 50 years beginning June 16,1973. After graduating from BBC, the young family followed God’s call to Grand Rapids, Minnesota where Greg served for 1 year before returning to Kansas. He led a youth ministry in Halstead, Kansas there until he and his family of four moved to Beatrice, Nebraska to shepherd Bible Baptist Church. Here they remained until 1985 when God called again, this time to Lincoln, Nebraska.
Serving Victory Baptist Church of Lincoln for over 20 years, Greg and Gwen raised 2 boys and added a daughter. They saw the church grow and succeed in ways we won’t know this side of heaven, influencing generations to follow the God he served.
After seeing their oldest through high school they moved to Winfield, Ks. for a short time to serve at Millington Street Baptist with their middle son and daughter. Shortly after settling in, God called again, leading them to New Testament Baptist Church in Wichita, KS.
New Testament Baptist was Greg’s last full-time ministry, and he served there for nearly 20 years. This ministry saw people come to know their Savior, grow individuals in their walk, and serve a community in any way it could. Greg was the heart of the ministry and lived to serve others. His desire was to see others meet his Jesus.
Greg is preceded in death by both his parents; Arnie and Letha Oldenettel, and wife Gwen Oldenettel. He is survived by 3 children; Jeff (Becky) Oldenettel, Dan (Valerie) Oldenettel, and Alicia Scholtz (Stephen); siblings Stephen, Rodney (Leslie), Jo Heinz (Phil), numerous grandchildren; Josh, Jessica Lindsted (Chase), Kiara, Brooke, Arieana, Paul, Aleena, Levi, Micah; as well as great-grandchildren Jameson, Rowdey, Holden; as well as many nieces, nephews, church family, and friends and neighbors he considered family.
Pastor Greg would want you to know his heart is full and he wants everyone to meet him again thru his Jesus. Come to know Him today.
