Patricia "Patsy" Ann (Hemmen) Simon

Patricia Ann (Patsy) Simon, age 96, passed away April 24, 2025.  She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Patsy was born on January 8, 1929, in Wichita, Kansas to Leo and Ruth (Maus) Hemmen.  She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1947. On April 28, 1951, she married Reinard Simon at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Schulte, Kansas.  They settled on a dairy farm near Colwich, Kansas.

Before she was married, Patsy was a secretary for Yingling Chevrolet in Wichita.  She became a homemaker and farmer’s wife after their marriage.  She was a member of St. Mark’s Altar Society and a faithful Adoration adorer for many years.  She loved polka dancing, playing the piano and her accordion for family gatherings and later in life as entertainment for the residents in surrounding nursing homes. Her most important goal in life was to pass down the love of her faith to her children and grandchildren.

Patsy is survived by: her nine children, Suzanne (Dennis) Gruenbacher, Debbie (Vic) Baier, Kevin Simon, Phil (Mary) Simon, Tim (Grace) Simon, Ted (Sandy) Simon, Janie (Max) Wells, Laurie (Russell) Martin and Kurt (Jennifer) Simon; her 25 grandchildren, Shelley (Gruenbacher) Stucky, Brent Gruenbacher, Jared and Alan Baier, Lindsey Bell, Lacy Eck, Carly Sturm, Cody Simon, Jesse and Clint Simon, Kristin Speets, Ashlee Martinez, Sadie Eck, Trent and Sawyer Simon, Brandi and Ethan Simon, Nicole Metzen, Clete Wells, Evan, Logan and Jaden Martin, Austin, Kylee and Allison Simon; her 48 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  She is also survived by her brother, John Hemmen and sister, MaryLou Hilger.  Patsy is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Reinard.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2025 and the funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2025, both at St. Mark Catholic Church (19230 W. 29th St. N, Colwich, Kansas 67030). Interment will be in St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Adoration Chapel Fund (19230 W. 29th St. N, Colwich, Kansas 67030) or Gentiva Hospice (9229 E. 37th St. N. Suite 104, Wichita, Kansas 67226).
