Rodney Baker Obituary

Rodney J. Baker, 81, passed away on June 8, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas. Rodney was born on June 19, 1943, in Arkansas City, Kansas, but it was Russellville, Arkansas, where he spent most of his childhood and would forever hold a place in his heart.

After graduating from high school, Rodney answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. From 1963 to 1967, he served with honor during the Vietnam War. His dedication and discipline were recognized with several commendations, including medals for conduct, marksmanship, national defense service, and the Marine Corps medal for expeditionary service.

Following his military service, Rodney continued a life of public service as a first responder working for the Wichita Airport Police and Fire Department for many years. His commitment to protecting others remained a constant throughout his career.

Rodney was a man who found joy in the outdoors. He was a golfer, an avid hunter, and a fisherman who cherished time spent in nature. Whether casting a line or walking through Kansas fields and woods, he felt most at home under open skies. He also enjoyed do-it-yourself projects and was always ready with tools in hand and a new idea to pursue.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jane; his son, Patrick Baker(Lisa); stepchildren, Josh Maxwell (Mandy), Neely Flores (David), Giles Maxwell (Haylee), and Ben Maxwell; grandchildren, Isabella Flores, Joshua Flores, Cooper Flores, Serenity Flores, and Silas Flores; sister, Kayrl Haper (Gale); brother, Kenny Baker; sister-in-law, Pat Baker and his nieces and nephews.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Ethel Baker, and his brother David Baker.

A man of quiet strength and enduring loyalty, Rodney leaves behind a legacy of service, love for family, and deep appreciation for the natural world. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

Memorial Service will be held on July 8th at 10:30 a.m. at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in Winfield, 1208 N College St, Winfield, KS 67156.
