Roland Wayne Monson (Rollie), age 80, of Wichita, KS, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
He was born June 13, 1944 in Orange City, IA. Rollie was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Helen Monson; sister, Lynn Wolf; and son, Robert Monson.
He is survived and missed by his wife of 59 years, Roberta Wise Monson; children, Rolanda Maness (David) and Reginald Monson (Stefanie); siblings, Darwin Monson and Carmen Diischer. Forever cherished and remembered by his 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.
Rollie was a Navy veteran and Federal Meat Inspector of 31 years. He had many other professions throughout his life. He worked maintenance at several local churches and schools and was well loved as the Chick-fil-a “Grandpa”. Rollie had a life-long love of music and took an active role in playing trumpet, including being a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp in the Navy. He loved to sing and directed choirs and led worship in the churches he attended.
A celebration of Rollie’s life will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2025 at Country Acres Baptist Church, Wichita, KS. There will be a reception following. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Country Acres Baptist Church in support of the music department.
