Susan Marie (Hardwick) Carpenter, lovingly known as “Mema” passed away at the age of 76, on August 23, 2024. She was born November 8, 1947 in Great Bend, Ks. to Robert “Bill” Hardwick and Joyce (Rogers) Hardwick.
She was united in marriage to Shelby Sphar in 1966. They had two children, Brett and Lanie.
Su completed cosmetology school then worked with and co-owned The Man Trap with her mom, Joyce.
After retiring from hair, Su spent many years at Hogoboom Trucking where she met and married Robert “Bob” Carpenter, October 14, 1988. They built a life enjoying camping, fishing, gardening and bird watching.
Su’s passion for quilting was an important and beautiful part of her life. Her talent was like none other.
She loved being a “Mema” to her three grandchildren, Cole, Kyndal and Laiken. They were the lights of her life!
She is survived by her husband Bob Carpenter of the home. Her son, Brett (Shawna) Sphar of Maize. Her daughter, Lanie (Ron) Hladik of Mulvane. Her step daughter, Bobbette (Joe) Webb of Missouri. Her grandchildren, Cole Sphar, Kyndal Sphar and Laiken Hladik and her sweet cat, Tuff.
Graveside service will be held at Walnut Valley Memorial Park, 725 Boyer Road, El Dorado, Ks. Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 1:00pm.
