Virginia Taylor Obituary

Virginia (Matthews) Taylor

Virginia Taylor, age 88, passed away November 8, 2023 at Wesley Woodlawn Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, surrounded by family.

Virginia Bell Matthews was born on October 8, 1935 to Lloyd and Maudie Matthews in Dewey County, Oklahoma. She was a graduate of Independence High School. Soon after graduation, she met the love of her life, Lyndle Taylor, and they married in 1954 in Thomas, Oklahoma before moving to Wichita, Kansas where the two built their life and family, together.

Virginia spent many years working for the Board of Education and as a bookkeeper for the family businesses she ran with Lyndle. In 1964, Lyndle and Virginia welcomed their first son, Lance; in 1967 their second son, Gavin, joined and completed their family.

Virginia was a faithful Christian who loved Jesus and her boys fiercely.  She spent the best years of her life at home raising her children and was proud of the men, and fathers, they became. Virginia was also blessed with four grandchildren, whom she spent many years watching swim in her backyard pool, baking sugar cookies with, and loving unconditionally.   Aside from loving her family, Virginia also enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, baking, and staying involved with her church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lyndle; son, Lance; parents, Lloyd and Maudie Matthews; sister, Ruby; and brother, Walter. She is survived by her son, Gavin (Angela) Taylor of Lancaster, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Taylor of Wichita, Kansas; grandsons, Braden (Holly) Taylor, Garrett (Cami) Taylor, and Dalton Taylor, all of Wichita, Kansas; granddaughter, Alyssa (Tanner) Brock of Gardner, Kansas; bonus grandchildren,  Alex Miller and MacKenzie Stevens of Lancaster, South Carolina; great-grandsons, Jayce, James, Callen, and Lance; and many nieces and nephews who loved and cherished her tremendously.

A graveside service will be held in Thomas, Oklahoma at Mound Valley Cemetery on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.

A memorial has been established for donations in Virginia's honor with The Lord's Diner, 520 N. Broadway Wichita, Kansas 67214.
