Craig Monk Obituary

Craig A. Monk, 53, of Cheney, Kansas, passed from this life to the next, March 10, 2022.

Born on November 7, 1968 (Wichita), Craig grew up in Cheney graduating from Cheney High School in 1987.

He was very dedicated to his career in the maintenance department with the city of Cheney, working there for over 20 years. He also worked for Astra Energy Solutions for nine years, attending to many farmers in the surrounding area. Craig volunteered for the Cheney Fire and EMT for 20 years, was always assisting in any way for the Sedgwick County Fair, and was generous with his time and willing to help anyone in need.

Craig enjoyed backpacking in the backcountry of Yellowstone, the bottom of the Grand Canyon, Bandelier, Ouachita, and many other places. He loved to photograph sunrises, cook, take road trips, and spend time with his family. His smile and quick wit will be missed by many.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Teresa (Monk) Burdorf, his paternal grandparents, Alton and Olis Monk, and his maternal grandparents, Jacob and Ioma Meyers.

He is survived by his wife, Samantha Capehart-Monk, daughter Kayla (Layton) Hammonn of Wichita, sons Reid (Lauren) Monk of Wichita, and Andrew Capehart. Grandsons, Caybryn Lovelady and Ray Hammonn, parents Harlon and Barbara (Meyers) Monk, brother John Monk, brother-in-law Jeff Burdorf, nephews Aaron Burdorf and Connor Monk, and niece Ashleigh Burdorf.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, from 10:30 AM -3:30 PM at the Farm Bureau building on South Ave and Garfield in Cheney, KS.
